    Dr Jonathan Pye: Director/Practice Principal

    dental essentials jon profile

Dr Jonathan (Jono) Pye graduated from the University of Queensland in 1999.

Upon graduation, Jonathan returned to the South Burnett to take up a position as dentist with Queensland Health.  During this time Jonathan worked closely with oral surgeons at both the Kingaroy Hospital and the Royal Brisbane Hospital, enabling him to extend his excellent surgical skills.  In later years, Jonathan returned to the Kingaroy Hospital on a casual basis as the visiting dentist for oral surgery.

Jonathan and his wife Phuong founded Dental Essentials in 2004 (under the name of Pye DentALL Care) with the vision of providing the South Burnett community with excellent dental care.

Jonathan has special interests in oral surgery, endodontics (root canal treatments), and cosmetic dentistry.  He maintains currency in all aspects of dentistry by regularly undertaking continuing education activities.  In particular, Jonathan has invested copious hours into professional development in his special-interest fields of both surgery and endodontics, thus enabling him to offer a wide range of treatment options for patients of this practice.

Jonathan is a member of the Australian Dental Association, and practices dentistry in accordance with the high standards of the Association.

Something many people do not know is that Jono is a local boy who did his schooling at Wondai and Kingaroy.  He spends most of his spare time on the family farm, helping in the running of the family agriculture business.  Jono always enjoys a good conversation about all aspects of farming and farm machinery!

    Dr Phuong Pye: Director/Practice Principal

Dr Phuong Pye graduated in 2000 from the University of Queensland with First Class Honours.

After working in both public and private sectors for several years, Phuong moved to the South Burnett to work at the Kingaroy Hospital Dental Clinic.  She was the Principal Dentist at the Kingaroy Hospital Dental Clinic for five years before joining her husband Jonathan in 2009 at the newly expanded Dental Essentials.

Phuong has special interests in family dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.  Continuing education is a priority for Phuong, and she joins Jonathan in continuing education activities to ensure her skills and knowledge are maintained to a high level.

Phuong is also a member of the Australian Dental Association and is committed to delivering quality dental care in accordance with the Association’s standards.

On a personal note, Phuong was born in Vietnam, and lived in Finland for 8 years before moving to Australia in 1986.  Phuong and Jonathan have two children who do their best to keep Phuong busy when she is not practicing dentistry.  Phuong enjoys reading and collecting books (especially vintage children’s books), and she also has a black belt in taekwondo!

    Dr Simon Lee: Dentist

    dental essentials simon profile

Dr Simon Lee graduated with his Bachelor of Dental Science degree from the University of Queensland in 2012.

Before joining the Dental Essentials team, Simon spent a year in the Northern Territory with NT Oral Health.  In addition to working in a government clinic within Darwin city, Simon also experienced travelling and working in remote indigenous clinics; an experience he found challenging but very rewarding.

Having seen some of the barriers to oral health experienced by many people, Simon aims to create a positive experience for all his patients.  He ensures his patients are comfortable with minimal stress when providing treatment, and feels rewarded when they leave with a smile on their face.  Simon also has a strong focus on preventive care, with an aim to stopping and reversing dental degeneration.

Simon is a member of the Australian Dental Association and keeps updated with the latest news in dentistry, as well as pursuing education activities to continue to build on his knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis.

Personally Simon was born in Hong Kong, but has spent most of his life in Brisbane.  Simon enjoys a casual game of tennis, but his passion for photography often wholly occupies his time, leading him to explore new places and subjects to add to his growing photo collection.

Debbie is a member of the Australian Dental Hygienists’ Association, and regularly attends continuing education and professional development workshops and conferences.

Debbie did her initial training as a dental therapist in 1982, followed by further training in 2005 to gain qualifications in dental hygiene.  Outside of the South Burnett, Debbie has worked in Brisbane, Mareeba, and Bundaberg, and in her other life as a farmer’s wife, Deb has travelled from central Queensland to central Victoria following the grain harvest.

Debbie and her husband Russell have five children, and six grandchildren.  While Deb no longer takes part in grain harvest contracting, she still manages to pack hay stacking, pumpkin picking and cattle chasing into her busy schedule.  When time permits, Debbie also enjoys sewing and knitting.
